How do I choose a table base?

You’ll need a base that’s strong enough to support your tabletop while also allowing chairs to slide under it and your customers to sit comfortably. Consider the size of your tabletop as well. You don’t want to spend a lot of money on a large tabletop only to use a base that can’t support it properly.

How do you measure the base of a table?

Measure the foundation. Use the bottom side if the base is wider at the bottom than at the top. Calculate the radius by halving the diameter of the base is a circle. Measure the length and width of the base if it’s a square or rectangle.

What are the parts of table furniture?

Parts of a Table

  • Top: the flat surface of a table.
  • Apron, skirt or frieze: the under-framing which connects the legs to the top.
  • Leg: the main vertical piece which supports the top and raises it off the floor.
  • Knee: the upper portion of the leg.
  • Foot: the bottom part of the leg which touches the floor.

How wide of a base do I need?

As a general rule, a glass tabletop should not overhang its base by more than one-third of its width. That means a 54-inch-diameter glass table should be supported by a base with a minimum diameter of 18 inches and a maximum of 18 inches of overhang on all sides.

What are the different types of table bases?

Table bases can be divided into three categories: single post or pedestal, double-based, and four-legged. Metal or wood, smooth or turned, and straight or tapered legs are all included in these basic style categories. The size and structure of a table determine the type of base that will be used.
